A DAY IN THE LIFE
Project Based Learning Block
Get focused every morning in Advisory with groups of 15 or fewer. Your College Success Advisor leads the group in resilience, leadership, and communication skills along with college portfolio building. Students then work on their Engineering or Computer Science skills. STEM classes are based on the design cycle and are driven by the CTE (Career and Technical Education) Curriculum and TEKS. On Fridays, students spend time in self-guided Project Based Learning in preparation for their Exhibition of Learning, Student-Led Conferences, or Field Experiences.
Math & Science Learning Block
All students declare an Individual Learning Plan which leverages intelligent tech to self-direct mastery of TEKS (learning standards) in core subject areas. Students work at their own pace on campus with teachers in labs for 1:1, small groups, or independent opportunities in 90-minute highly personalized blocks every day. Students may receive a double block of math in order to prepare for the SAT/ACT/TSI.
Visual Arts & Foreign Languages Block
Students rotate between a deep exploration of Visual Arts (creativity) and Language Acquisition (Foreign Language). Students take drawing, photography, and design before choosing an area to focus on for their junior/senior year advanced-level work.
Foreign Language offerings may include Russian, Korean, Mandarin, Spanish, Arabic, and Japanese. Our English-language learners work on English during this block!
Humanities and Zero Hour Learning Block
TEKS-aligned Humanities (Social Studies and English) classes are facilitated in groups of 15 for opportunities for deep discussions and Socratic seminars. Zero Hour provides the freedom for acceleration or a Multi-Tiered System of Support for English Language Learners or students who need additional support in other core classes.
